So I'm not Racist, Sexist or Homophobic (Implicitly Anyway)
As I was hard at work today I came across the mention of the Implicit Project at Harvard. Obviously since it's Harvard it must be good (here is a hint I'm being very very sarcastic). Any way this project uses words and pictures to determine how people implicitly (notice the very clever naming scheme) view certain issues. Seeing as I was working I was only able to take three tests: one on race, one on gender and one on sexuality. I kind of expected the "little or no association with race preference" (black guy from naij, with black guy in all white town) and the "little or no association with gender/science preference" (most of the brightest science people I know are women) but I have to admit I was a little surprised on the gay thing. Don't get me wrong I am not sad that I'm not a gay-basher, its just that I thought I would be, at least in the "not 100% comfortable around them" kind of way and not in the "I would rather the world go to hell than see them married" kind of way. I mean I know 3 gay people that I would call friends and I stared just as much as the women at the barbers / hairdressers at the flaming gay guy that was walking down toyin street (though I did not run after him shouting "aunty dare" like they did). I still feel like I need an -ism though, I'm thinking light-skinned blacks (always a good one), though if I'm really daring I might go for a moderate preference for skinny people over fat people.
PS. There is no cartoon cos I couldn't find one with the caption:
"What do you mean you don't hate gay people?"
